In recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Karis Disability Services hosted an Inclusive Employers Appreciation Day to celebrate organizations creating meaningful opportunities for adults with disabilities.

ANIDA Food Bank was honoured to be recognized for its commitment to inclusion and community participation.

ANIDA Food Bank has been part of this journey for approximately four years, welcoming adults and young adults supported by Karis to volunteer, build practical skills and contribute to their community. Other adults also volunteer regularly, finding purpose and belonging through their involvement. Support workers shared how much participants value the opportunity, with many viewing their time at the food bank much like going to a job.

A parent also spoke about the importance of opportunities to continue learning after high school, sharing how grateful she was that her son could pursue further education and develop his abilities.

This story and many others shared that day are reminders of what becomes possible when people are given the opportunity, support and space to learn and contribute. Meaningful inclusion benefits not only individuals, but also workplaces and the wider community.

ANIDA Food Bank was honoured to receive a certificate of recognition for its commitment to inclusive employment, accessibility and meaningful opportunities for people with disabilities.

At ANIDA, we believe everyone has something valuable to contribute. We are grateful to Karis Disability Services and the volunteers who continue to strengthen our community through this partnership.
