Building Lasting Change Through Collective Support

Poverty and food insecurity are complex challenges and through Hope Builders, ANIDA brings monthly contributions together to support communities in building lasting change.

Last month, we recognized two important international days: the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty and World Food Day. Both remind me that poverty and food insecurity are interconnected challenges that require more than a single solution.

That is how we view poverty here at ANIDA. We see how barriers to education, health and well-being, food security, and sustainable income can reinforce one another. So, addressing these challenges means understanding how they affect each community and recognizing that progress may look different from one community to another.

According to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals Report 2026, the global extreme poverty rate stands at 10% in 2026, only three percentage points below the 2015 level. At the current rate of progress, approximately 9% of the world’s population could still be living in extreme poverty by 2030, with four in five of those people living in sub-Saharan Africa or in fragile and conflict-affected countries.

These figures are a reminder that progress takes time and that the challenges communities face are not all the same.

That is why we do not arrive with predetermined solutions. We listen to communities, learn about their priorities, and work alongside local leaders to shape programs that respond to their needs. We also monitor progress, learn from the results, and adapt when something needs to change.

Whether through education, health and well-being, food security, or sustainable livelihoods, meaningful development begins with listening and building relationships. Lasting progress happens when communities have a voice in shaping their future and the support to move forward on their own terms.

This belief also shapes how we approach monthly giving.

We’ve reimagined our monthly giving experience to make it clearer, more focused, and centred on the difference consistent support can make. Through Hope Builders, monthly contributions come together to support ANIDA’s community-led development work.

Meaningful change takes time, consistent support helps build the foundation for lasting progress.

When you understand what your support helps make possible, giving becomes more than a transaction. It becomes a way to be part of the progress communities are working towards.
