FILIPINOS BEAR THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS!

When the month hits “-ber,” Filipinos bear the Spirit of Christmas!
Christmas starts in September and ends on January 6th, the Feast of Epiphany or Three Kings’ Day.

Yes, Christmas overlaps with all other holidays like Halloween and New Year’s; that shows how much we Filipinos love Christmas! We see all of our families and relatives to celebrate together with a huge grand reunion party!

In my family, we prepare lots of dishes, and everyone brings one of their specialties. However, the starlight is the Lechon, which is a huge roasted pig laid on banana leaves. We sing our hearts out with the karaoke machine while we eat, watch movies, catch up, and play games. There is never a dull moment in our big family. Before the party ends, we exchange gifts and watch the little ones’ happy faces with their “ampao.”

Family is an essential part of the Filipino culture. We always celebrate the Holidays and every celebration together as a family. For most of the Filipinos abroad, including myself, celebrating Christmas has been different. The Read & Feed Campaign will not only help spread the Spirit of Christmas. It also reminds us that we are each other’s family, blessed with warmth and love in the community.
