ANIDA’S COMMUNITY BUILDING EFFORTS CONTINUE!

ANIDA will continue to strengthen individuals and communities through its involvement in the City of Toronto’s city-wide community mobilization vaccine campaign.

At ANIDA, we strive to empower individuals by giving them the support they need to be agents of change in their lives and within their own communities. It is important that as a leader, ANIDA mobilizes within its beneficiary communities to provide information and resources for individuals to make informed decisions for themselves.

Our Women’s Development Centre in Ghana, in collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), conducted a workshop this past week discussing the impact of COVID-19 on the world and offering participants information about the vaccine. Joy is a 26-year-old student at the Women’s Development Center (WDC) in Ghana and is enrolled in the School of Aesthetics and the School of Continuing Education. This session offered Joy the opportunity to challenge misconceptions about the vaccine and ask questions regarding the virus. Through the information provided and dialogue that was encouraged, Joy walked away from the session better equipped to make informed decisions regarding her health and the ability to share her knowledge with family and friends.

ANIDA will continue to strengthen individuals and communities by facilitating discussions regarding best practices when it comes to stopping the spread of COVID-19. ANIDA has been selected as a partner in the City of Toronto’s city-wide community mobilization vaccine campaign. As a partner organization, ANIDA will address barriers to access and reduce vaccine hesitancy in the Jane and Finch community, one that has been most negatively impacted by the virus. The importance of ANIDA’s involvement in these knowledge sharing initiatives can be further exemplified by the following testimony offered by Taiwo.
“Our responsibility is not protecting yourself alone, but protecting the other person next to you.”
-Tawio, Community Programs Placement Student-
Taiwo is a Canadian-Nigerian, completing her final term of study through a placement at our Toronto Food Bank. Dealing with multiple health issues at once, Taiwo is immunocompromised and has no other choice but to take all the precautions necessary to mitigate her risk of contracting COVID and the potential complications it would have on her health. Luckily, Taiwo booked her vaccination appointment the moment she had the opportunity and is now more at ease knowing that she has done everything she can to protect herself.
