HOPE FOR TOMORROW

Liberia

Akon Image

Akon’s story

I live in Liberia with my mom ever since my father left us when I was 2 years old. My mom works very hard doing street vending to support my brother and I, especially during my struggle with malaria. I am currently in senior kindergarten and my favorite subject is math. In my free time, I really like to draw! I have made a promise to my mom and my teachers that I will be a good boy and I will never follow a bad crowd when I grow up. Since I am learning so much, I would really like to continue my studies. Unfortunately, my mom is struggling to fund my education. With your help, I can continue to learn and hopefully, one day, live a life out of poverty. Through child sponsorship, your investment in his life also helps Akon’s family and community.

Robert ’s story

I live in Liberia with my mom and 7 siblings. My father left us 6 years ago because he was very ill, and has since died from his illness. My goal is to be double promoted each school year and finish secondary school. I have been working very hard to achieve these goals by studying every day. My favorite subject is spelling and I am studying hard to do better in math. My mom never had the opportunity to attend high school, so she really values education for me and my siblings. Unfortunately, she cannot afford to fund all of our education on her own. With your help, I can stay in school and hopefully be able to achieve my dream of finishing secondary school. Through child sponsorship, your investment in his life also helps Robert ’s family and community.

Florence ’s story

I live in Liberia with only one parent who never had the opportunity to complete high school. My goal is to live up to my name and "flourish" in life. As one of the only girls in my class, I am constantly competing with the boys to be the best student in the class. I believe that if Liberian girls are given an education and the support they need to thrive, we will be the champions of the development of our community and its togetherness. Unfortunately, even though my single parent works hard to provide for us, I will have to drop out of school soon due to financial difficulties. With your help, I could continue my studies and hopefully, one day, live a life out of poverty. Through child sponsorship, your investment in her life also helps Florence ’s family and community.

Diana’s story

I live in Liberia with my foster parents, who took responsibility for me when I was found by community dwellers in a carton at a garbage site. They work hard to support me, especially through my struggles with malaria and measles. I am really determined to change the narrative of my story of neglect to one where I have a successful future. I believe that going to school will help me achieve this. So far, my favorite subject is social studies! Unfortunately, I will have to drop out of school soon because it is too expensive for us to afford. With your help, I would be able to continue my studies and hopefully, one day, live a life out of poverty. Through child sponsorship, your investment in her life also helps Diana’s family and community.
